    Old but gold

The wife and I met some incredibly nice people in a café in a small town of the Taubertal. Eventually we were talking about the kintsugi repairs, and as it turns out it was a perfect timing.

The lovely owner of the café forwarded the possibility and a friend of hers had just broken a dear piece. Gifted by his sister about 40 years ago. It is a vacation souvenir from Morocco – what a pleasure to be allowed to fix it 🙂

The parts are connected with epoxy and then multiple layers of urushi are added.

    The bowl-out

This is a heavy duty bowl. Used almost every day it was longing for a vacation in the workshop. Well, workshop is a bit of a euphemism as I am doing all the repairing at my desk…

I started mixing old and new style, meaning I attach the parts with Cashew based epoxy and do the finishing with urushi.

  • Déjà-broken

    Déjà-broken

Do you sometimes have the feeling of going into a room and while entering you forget what you were doing? To me this happens mostly while going to the kitchen.

However, this project my feel like a déjà-vu but after picking up traditional style I wanted to redo this cup. The text above is completely unrelated though…

    Don’t bow(l)!

My wonderful dance teacher bought a set of good porcelain with one of her first salaries as a professional dancer.

Over the years she got rid of some of the pieces, but no more!

Fortunately, I started using traditional techinque (using urushi) and I was so happy she let me repair this bowl.

  • And what about tee?

    And what about tee?

A beautiful tea cup, and apparently my fathers favourite…but that’s all I know about it. Probably my first project using only urushi.

There was a small piece missing, but it eventually turned to a bigger crack and I had to take it fully apart.

    DA BA DEE

A family keepsake. Severely broken – it was fixed before and used as a plant pot. Forging a new purpose?

    The superhero

I wish I wasn’t as bad in taking pictures…but that’s not the goal anyway. Fortunately, my wife usually takes care of the pictures.
